A CULLINGWORTH schoolgirl has returned from a dog show in Leipzig with a set of rosettes.

Willow Johnson took on competitors from across 73 nations competing with 31,000 dogs at the World Dog Show.

Willow, 12, a year seven student at Parkside School, went along with her mother and a local dog breeder.

Majella McColgan, the parental involvement worker at Parkside School, said the Leipzig competition was the world’s most important dog show.

She said: “Willow entered two of her dogs Nikko and Foxy in the World Junior Class, and Willow and three-year-old Nikko, a Shetland Sheepdog, won second place.”

As well as a host of competition classes over five days, the dog show featured fringe events for animal owners, including dog sport events.

These included the Dog Dancing World Championships, the German Agility Championships, an international flyball tournament, and the European Dog Diving Championships.

There were more than 180 pet food stands offering nibbles, treats and varieties of food.
