NEARLY 140 homes across the district have been helped out of fuel poverty in time for Christmas.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority says more than £1 million, with match funding, has been ploughed into energy efficiency measures.

Houses in the Bradford district have benefited from cavity, external wall and loft insulation.

The work was carried out as part of a combined authority drive to tackle fuel poverty throughout the Leeds City Region, which includes Keighley.

The project was co-ordinated by the authority and Better Homes Yorkshire, a council-backed home energy efficiency and heating provider.

Carbon savings of 3,184 tonnes should be achieved over the lifetime of the insulation.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Bradford Council leader and chairman of the combined authority, said: "Investing in tackling fuel poverty is a positive example of how the council and the combined authority are delivering inclusive growth to communities that need it most this winter and beyond.

"We want everyone to benefit from the positive changes being made to jobs, skills and the economy and by helping to keep homes warmer – and heating bills lower – more residents of Bradford district and the City Region will be able to enjoy better health and improved finances this winter."
