SOUTH Craven householders will receive a festive recycling boost.

North Yorkshire County Council is opening some of its household waste recycling centres for an extra day between Christmas and the New Year.

Among those opening on Wednesday, December 27, is the site at Harrogate Road in Skipton.

It is normally shut on Wednesdays.

County Councillor Andrew Lee, executive member for waste management, said: "We realise that many rubbish and recycling collections will be delayed or cancelled during the Christmas week, so by opening selected sites we hope residents will be able to recycle and dispose of their waste and not suffer overflowing bins and boxes.

"We expect the sites to be busy over the festive period, so it would really help all users and staff if people could sort waste before arriving and keep traffic moving."

The sites will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
