A NEW campaign has been launched to support organisations which help those sleeping rough and begging in the district.

The initiative enables people to pledge money, goods and time to charities through a new website – streetsupport.net/Bradford.

It also acts as an online hub, where people can access information about the services available, adverts for volunteers and details of items needed.

The Bradford Cares campaign has been commissioned by the Safer and Stronger Communities Partnership.

Keighley Central councillor, Zafar Ali, welcomes the venture.

"By working together we can try to help those who are rough sleeping and begging by offering them support in more ways," he said.

"Through going to the website, anyone can show their support."

Councillor Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council's executive member for neighbourhoods and community safety, said the campaign would spotlight the "fantastic" work being done by charities and agencies.

He added: "It will support vulnerable individuals in overcoming difficult challenges in their lives, and will hopefully empower people to help."

The scheme is also welcomed by West Yorkshire Police.

Chief Inspector Michael Rutter said: "Bradford Cares is a multi-agency response from organisations across the district to raise awareness of the help, advice and services available to anyone begging or rough sleeping in Bradford.

"We back the scheme and encourage the public to give money to local charities which are already working with the individuals."
