FREE three-course Christmas lunches for older people organised and funded by Keighley Town Council have received another enthusiastic response.
A total of about 100 people aged 65 and older attended the sessions, staged in the Keighley Civic Centre function room yesterday and today. (Dec 12/13)
Yesterday's lunch was accompanied by songs performed by a choir from St Andrew's Primary School.
Councillor Julie Adams, acting chairman of the town council's events and leisure committee, said the two lunches had been extremely successful.
She thanked everyone who contributed, including the primary school pupils, councillors and council officers, Lavender Fields cafe which prepared the food and a member of Asda Supermarket's community champions team.
She added that Sainsbury's Supermarket provided Christmas crackers for the lunch guests.
Commenting during today's meal Cllr Adams said: "We've had 50 people at each lunch and have been booked out on both days.
"It would be lovely if we could expand this event, because obviously we have a lot more than 100 pensioners in the town.
"Yesterday was fabulous, with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. The feedback we had was really good.
"One of the nice things is that there will be guests here who don't know each other, but they will have made new friends by the end of the meal."
