MODEL-rail enthusiasts made tracks for Keighley yesterday.

The town's model railway club staged its annual Christmas open day.

And it drew visitors from as far afield as the east coast, South Yorkshire and Manchester.

Fifteen layouts – including two guest contributions – were in operation at the clubrooms, at Keighley Business Centre, in South Street.

"It was a really good day and we were delighted with the turnout," said club spokesman, Steve Ward.

"As a club we are building quite a reputation for putting on an excellent, entertaining event, and that was reflected in the numbers who attended.

"We've been doing a lot of work on tracks, rolling stock and scenery and it was a chance for people to see that.

"Plus, visitors were bringing in stock they'd received over Christmas to run."

Seasonal catering was provided by Denholme Scouts.

Mr Ward said the club was now starting work on building new layouts – in O, OO and N gauge – and more members were welcome.

He added: "Our award-winning Runswick Bay layout has been 'retired' and with the new layouts planned, it is a great time for people to join.

"We currently have more than 80 members, covering all age groups."

Anyone interested can contact the club via its website – keighley-mrc.org.uk – or call at the clubrooms, on the third floor of the business centre, from 7pm on Tuesdays or Thursdays or on Saturday afternoons.

The club's next major event is its annual exhibition, at University Academy Keighley, on March 10 and 11.
