THE RIOT Act will be read to students of Holy Family School to drive home the road safety message.

The Riot Act theatre company will visit the Keighley school on Friday February 23 to perform an educational play entitled Deadly Distractions.

Bradford Council's Road Safety Team has commissioned the actors to deliver their Pedestrian Safety Education Programme to secondary schools across the district.

The hard-hitting performance will raise awareness of the risks young people face as a pedestrian, focussing on the danger of distractions and thrill-seeking behaviour and will help students to combat peer pressure.

Traffic is the single biggest cause of accidental death for 12 to 16-year-olds, with nearly two in three teenagers admitting being distracted by talking to friends while crossing the road.

Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Housing, Planning and Transport, said: "Hopefully this drama performance will help young people think about their behaviour as pedestrians and improve their attitude to road safety."
