COMMUNITY cash from a Steeton housing development will be spent on improvements to the Keighley Road Recreation Ground.

Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council were told that developers Redrow, who recently built the Meadow Field development off Thornhill Road estate, had lodged section 106 money with Bradford Council.

Parish councillors will this month visit the play area to help them prepare an improvement scheme to submit to Bradford for approval.

Section 106 is a levy on developers to pay for facilities such as education, recreation or infrastructure, to help offset pressures caused by the influx of new residents.

A local resident recently suggested to the parish council that outdoor gym equipment should be bought for the site, but was told such facilities were available elsewhere in the parish, at Eastburn Playing Fields and on the Redrow estate.

At this month’s parish council meeting, another resident requested a rubbish bin on land next to the outdoor gym equipment at the Meadow Field development.

The resident was told this was a matter for Redrow and the maintenance company that will take over the site in due course.

In answer to a query about Chapel Lane and the adjacent Cartmel Lane grassed area, the council explained that it owned the track across the recreational land.

Council chairman David Mullen said he had asked Bradford Council to remove a fallen tree on the land.

Councillors explained that they had no power to impose one-way restrictions on Chapel Road, but were attempting to talk to Bradford Council about the issue.

Police attending the January parish council meeting said that in the previous month the Steeton and Eastburn parish had suffered one burglary, one theft from a motor vehicle, one assault and one incident of criminal damage.

In the burglary, thieves used a blow torch to melt the plastic casing around the door of a house so they could take keys and steal a high-value vehicle.

Residents complained about parking by Airedale hospital employees in Thornhill Road, Steeton, and Bracken Road, Eastburn.
