A NARROW stretch of road in Oxenhope was the subject of debate at the village’s latest parish council meeting.

Cllr Robert Goulding said part of Shaw Lane is so narrow it is “virtually single track”, making life difficult for those drivers who use the route.

“This cropped up at a neighbourhood planning meeting,” he added.

“At one part of the road the only passing place is someone’s private driveway. So at the moment when we have cars meeting they are having to reverse, which isn’t easy when there’s a line of three or more cars.

“Is there something we can do about this? Some kind of traffic light system would be one solution.”

Cllr Goulding said the current problem was only likely to get worse, noting that a planned new residential development at Tankard’s Mill would generate even more traffic on this road.

He said he would ideally like to discuss any possible solutions first, before putting in a request to Bradford Council.

Cllr Peter McManus asked whether any community contribution cash from this development could go towards improving vehicle access on Shaw Lane.

Worth Valley ward councillor Rebecca Poulsen recommended the parish council take its concerns to a senior Bradford Council’s Highways Department officer.

She explained: “He’s in charge of putting together request lists for different roads, but there’s only funding for so many road schemes each year.”
