A DECISION to throw litter out of a car while passing a marked police vehicle in Keighley proved extremely costly for the culprit.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police today (April 20) said that when the officers, who were on routine patrol, pulled over the offending vehicle on the Aire Valley Bypass they found class A drugs and also that that the driver was uninsured.
The spokesman added: "When our officers followed the vehicle it tried to evade them by turning onto the bypass at the last minute and attempting to make off.
"The officers managed to pull the vehicle over, at which point it transpired the driver had no valid insurance.
"Whilst searching the vehicle, in a coat on the back seat a rather suspicious looking package was found in a pocket.
"When officers asked both the driver and passenger who the coat belonged to they tried to blame each other!
"Both were arrested on suspicion of possession with the intent to supply Class A drugs, namely heroin and crack cocaine, and the driver for having no insurance.
"While in custody another two bags full of drugs were found secreted on the passenger, totalling 100 to 150 wraps in total.
"Both suspects have been bailed for forensic enquiries into the drugs and will also be dealt with for having no third party insurance and littering."
