A PARISH council has announced plans to trial its own grit bin scheme for three villages in the Worth Valley.

The new initiative has been outlined by Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council.

Council chairman, Cllr Gary Swallow, said: "With the recent spell of good weather it's easy to forget the snow that fell during 'The Beast from the East’.

"After the difficulties experienced this winter our councillors agreed grit bins would be welcome in residential areas where gritting is not carried out by Bradford Council.

"Therefore, to support residents, we've set aside funding in this year’s budget for the provision of grit bins within the three villages.

"Those who feel they'd benefit from such provision should check they're eligible by reading the Grit Bin Policy then complete the application form, both of which can be found on our website at haworthcrossroadsandstanbury-pc.gov.uk or from the Worth Valley Contact Point at 28 Changegate, Haworth, BD22 8DY.

"Anyone wishing to receive further information should contact Lisa Balderstone by e-mail at clerk@haworthcrossroadsstanbury-pc.gov.uk or call 01535 644001."

The closing date for the initial round of applications is Thursday May 31 2018 at 5pm.
