OAKWORTH residents turned out in force to help spruce up their village and tackle litter in the latest twice yearly "Operation Oakworth".

About 25 people took to the streets on Saturday (April 21) to collect over 30 bags of rubbish from the area in two hours.

They were helped by district councillor Rebecca Poulson and town councillor Luke Maunsell.

The event was overseen by local residents Debbie and Steve Ives, who came up with the idea of the clean-up in 2016.

Mrs Ives said: "I'm so glad so many turned out to keep Oakworth tidy. The village is looking amazing although there is always more to be done especially in the more rural areas.

"I was amazed that so many came along and keep coming back session after session to help pick up waste. I look forward to seeing more help out next time and want to thank Bradford Council for their ongoing support with the running of the event."

Cllr Maunsell said: "I was once again delighted to get my hands dirty at another Operation Oakworth.

"The village is looking stunning and it's all down to the hard work of local residents. I hope we can keep the village neat and tidy and ask everyone to help us by discarding their rubbish responsibly, either in the bins or by taking their waste home with them."

Cllr Poulsen said: "Debbie and Steve did a fantastic job. We had the usual suspects taking part, and some new people as well.

"There was less litter in the village itself, but a lot on the verges on the edge of the village which people had thrown from their cars."
