BABY sign-language classes are returning to Glusburn Arts Centre.

The Toddle Up and Sign sessions take place from May 26.

A mixture of British Sign Language and Makaton is used.

"The fun and relaxed classes are based around nursery rhymes, songs and stories so parents and carers can learn some sign language to use at home with their little one," said a spokesman.

"Babies can understand language and use gestures earlier than they can speak.

"There are lots of interactive elements to the sessions, with objects to handle and fun songs to help people remember the signs taught.

"The sessions at Glusburn have been really well received in the past and I am excited to restart them after a short maternity break."

Classes are suitable for babies from six months old up to toddler age.

Sessions will run in six-week blocks.
