KEIGHLEY was again the focus of local acts vying for a place at Bingley Music Live alongside famous bands.

Eight bands and singers performed in front of judges and the public at the Exchange music venue at Keighley Musicians Centre.

Winners of this month's closely-fought Emerging Talent contest were Glue, Kilnsey Green, Critical Reaction and Ego States.

The Exchange – which regularly hosts gigs by both local bands and nationally-known acts – organised the competition with Bingley Music Live bosses.

Michael Watmough from The Exchange, said: "It's been a genuine pleasure to host the Emerging Talent competition again this year. It's a very important event for the unsigned music community locally and we've seen a lot of positivity come from it over the years.

"This year's final was one of the best we've had with all bands worthy of higher recognition, genuinely exciting and some of the best unsigned talent Yorkshire has to offer.

"We also had an amazing four heats with real top talent. It's great that Bingley Music Live and Bradford Council involve local musicians in such a high profile event."

The eight bands were competing for one of two slots on the Main Stage and one of two slots on the 2nd Stage at the Bradford Council-run festival, which will be in Bingley’s Myrtle Park from August 31 to September 2.

Also competing in the final were Pretty Little Somethings, The Show, Ian Bareham and Sauce.

Cllr Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Sport and Culture, said: "This contest is a real opportunity for local up and coming acts to perform on a bigger platform and gain a wider following and the level of talent entering this competition keeps on improving year on year.”

Headline acts playing Bingley Music Live this year are Noel Gallagher’s Highflying Birds, Shed Seven, Jake Bugg, Gomez, Public Image Limited, Melanie C and The Cribs.

The event, which has been going in its current format for the past 12 years, has swiftly become one of Yorkshire’s most celebrated festivals, with a capacity of 15,000 people each day.

The Council has once again joined forces with Bradford and Bingley Sports Club to provide camping facilities for festivalgoers. Information about this can also be found on the festival website.

Tickets are selling fast and can be bought from Ticketline or the festival website bingleymusiclive.com.
