A Silsden-based company has been given the Queen’s Award for Enterprise after increasing its overseas exports by 77 per cent since 2006.
Snugpak, a specialist sleeping bag and outdoor clothing company, has received the award in the international trade category.
With a workforce of 50 and a turnover of £3 million a year, the company — which has been trading since 1977 — has secured export contracts to 28 countries, including military forces in America, Australia and Latvia.
Sales director Darren Burrell, said: “The Queen’s Award is very well respected around the world, certainly in the markets we deal in, such as America and Japan - they love the monarchy - and the fact that we have been recognised by the Queen will certainly improve sales and the way we are perceived.”
The owners, Michael Dobson from Silsden and Susan Parish from Bingley, were delighted with the honour and were looking forward to receiving the award at Buckingham Palace in the summer.
