A father of five who runs a takeaway restaurant told a jury he was entirely innocent of charges he sexually assaulted a young teenage girl.

Mohammed Shabir, 36, of Hawk Street, Keighley, is on trial with four other men at Bradford Crown Court.

Their alleged victim, now in her late teens, cannot be named for legal reasons.

The defendants all deny a catalogue of sexual offences against her between April 2005 and April 2007.

Shabir, known in court as Mohammed Shabir Senior, denies sexually abusing the girl when she was 14, at Caesars Pizza, in Newmarket Street, Skipton. He also pleads not guilty to sexually assaulting another young woman at the back of Caesars, in August 2007.

Shabir told the jury that the 14-year-old girl was a troublemaker who hung around in the takeaway smoking and drinking alcohol.

He had not known her name but thought she was 16 or 17 because of the way she dressed and behaved.

She and her friends wanted to use Caesars as a nightclub, Shabir said.

“They would order one pizza and sit around making a mess. Shabir told the court he never gave the girl free food or alcohol, cigarettes and money. He never had sex with her.

“I have never had sex with anyone except my wife.

“I do not believe in sex outside marriage,” he told the jury.

A sixth man, who was on trial accused of sex offences, has been acquitted of all the charges against him.

Shahid Iqbal, 25, of Nightingale Street, Keighley, was found not guilty by the jury earlier this week, on the direction of Judge Peter Benson.

The trial continues.
