The Friday Night Project — which provides entertainment for young people and deters them from hanging around on Silsden’s street corners — is up for an award.
The scheme was set up by Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team and Silsden Town Council to reduce the number of anti-social behaviour complaints made to police on a Friday night in Silsden.
Since its inception, the project — held at the youth centre, in Elliott Street — has significantly reduced complaints about anti-social behaviour.
Integrated Youth Services and the Keighley Area Committee also help to run the project, which has been nominated for the Solving Problems with Partners prize in this year’s West Yorkshire Police Excel awards.
Sgt Jo Beecroft, of the Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We have been very pleased with how the Friday Night Project has taken off and the fact that it has been nominated for an Excel award.
“In November organisers held a party, which was attended by over 40 people, proving how popular it is.”
The police Excel award ceremony will be held on March 19, when the final winners will be announced.
