A deputy manager at a mental health unit had to be separated from a patient after threatening to “spread” his face, a misconduct hearing was told yesterday.

Carl O’Mara, 40, later made a series of “condescending remarks” to the paranoid schizophrenic at Oakvale Supported Accommodation, in Keighley, it is claimed.

Four years on the male patient, referred to as Tenant A, is “gaunt, deluded and paranoid and never wants to see Oakvale again”, it was said.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) heard O’Mara bent a female colleague over a table and simulated sexual intercourse with her.

He referred to women’s “knockers and t**s”, and was spotted viewing pornography, it was claimed.

O’Mara said “all young Asians were drug dealers”, referred to a female colleague as a “Paki” and claimed her brother would “get guns” after she refused an arranged marriage, the hearing was told.

He was suspended by Bradford District NHS Trust in 2006. The NMC heard O’Mara’s relationship with Tenant A became difficult after an argument over cigarettes in December 2005.

He is said to have shouted at the patient and waved a finger in his face.

Later he is accused of saying: “You step out of line and I will spread your face.”

Gail Karkoszka, a former colleague at the Halifax Road unit, said she heard O’Mara “had been physically and verbally aggressive towards Tenant A” and that on one occasion a colleague had to come between them.

“There was a clear tension between Tenant A and Mr O’Mara,” she said.

“I recall Mr O’Mara made condescending remarks to Tenant A. He appeared to lack empathy and sympathy for others.'

Ms Karkoszka said since 2006 Tenant A had moved from the unit after deciding he ‘never wanted to see Oakvale again.'She said the patient is now 'gaunt, deluded and paranoid.'

The hearing was told O’Mara said one workmate had 'nice t**s' and a 'nice set of knockers.'

Later he allegedly bent her over a table, 'gyrating his groin to simulate sexual intercourse'.

In June 2006 he 'tickled and cuddled' her from behind and was later caught 'viewing pornographic material on a lap-top'.

The nurse, from Leeds, denies taunting Tenant A, using racist language; speaking in an inappropriate sexual manner; viewing porn on a laptop; and making inappropriate sexual contact with Colleague F.

He is not attending the hearing, which continues in his absence.
