Police found a car crashed into a wall after it had rolled over.

During a search of the area, Steven Scrivener, the driver, called out to them from nearby and they found him injured — he had a dislocated shoulder — and was unsteady on his feet.

Magistrates in Bingley were told on Monday that the 27-year-old was more than twice over the drink-driving limit when a blood sample was later taken in hospital.

Nadine Clough, prosecuting, said Scrivener, of Thwaites Brow Road, Long Lee, had told officers he had been drinking at The Globe pub, in Keighley, on January 17.

He had drunk four or five pints of beer and was also taking medication for a cough.

The blood sample revealed he had 228 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath — the legal limit is 80.

The bench banned him from driving for 16 months instead of 24 — crediting him for an early guilty plea — and fined him £350, as well as ordering him to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
