3:40pm Thursday 29th July 2010 in Keighley By Miran Rahman
Pubs belonging to a Keighley brewer aim to beat the £1,500 they raised for the Army Benevolent Fund during last year’s Yorkshire Day celebrations.
Seven Timothy Taylor-managed pubs will again mark the county’s special day on Sunday.
There will be live sheep shearing and a fancy dress tug of war at the Royal Oak, in Damside, Keighley.
There will also be entertainment on offer at the Lord Rodney, in Church Street.
These premises, along with the four others taking part, will be decked out with white rose flags and balloons.
Staff will be dressed in suitable Yorkshire attire, ranging from flat caps and wellies to full cricket whites. Some might even be dressed as sheep.
Timothy Taylor’s operations manager, Marc Craddock, said: “We get very excited by Yorkshire Day, as it gives us a chance to show our support for the great county that we live and work in.
“Our inaugural events last year were a great hit and have inspired our team to plan even greater things this time. “We are, however, looking to build on that success and as well as having great fun, raise even more money for the Army Benevolent Fund, which provides much needed support to our armed forces.” The pubs outside Keighley which will also participate include the Ferrands Arms, in Bingley, Royal Oak, in Ripon, the Town Hall Tavern, in Leeds, the Old Unicorn, in Bramley, and the Woolly Sheep Inn, Skipton.
