A former Silsden woman who raised thousands of pounds to help the fight against pancreatic cancer has died.

Kate Hardcastle, who died at the weekend, aged 68, after a short illness, began raising funds and awareness after her brother, Terry, died of the disease in December 2008.

Her mother, Marguerite, was also a victim of the cancer.

Kate had raised more than £14,000 for Pancreatic Cancer UK through numerous activities, including long-distance treks with her canine companion Goldie.

And she was in the process of transforming her own house at Morecambe into a holiday/respite home for people diagnosed with the disease.

This week, the start of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, tribute was paid to Kate by Pancreatic Cancer UK.

A spokesman said: “We are really sad to hear that Kate has passed away. During the time Kate has been involved with the charity, she has been tireless in her efforts to raise awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer. She will be greatly missed by everyone at the charity.”
