Sun shines on fun-filled village gala
8:00am Friday 13th July 2012 in Keighley
After a horrendous week of rain there was little hope for Oakworth gala, but fortunately it turned out to be the first sunny day for some time.
The line-up of gala queens, led by Oakworth’s Jenna Firth and her attendants Niamh Gilert and Ava Clarke, consisted of queens from Sutton, Silsden and Colne.
Led by the City of Bradford pipe band, the procession was warmly welcomed by the huge crowd brought out by the unexpected sunshine along the route from Windsor Road to the primary school, where the entertainment took place.
The procession featured the village’s Scout and Guide groups, Oakworth juniors, Oakworth junior cricket club, the playgroup, Oakworth primary cheerleaders and KYDZ, along with classic cars, an open top bus and a fire engine.
The pipe band and dancers performed for the crowds, as did Hi Energy, Starlight Stompers and the Oakworth Primary Cheerleaders.
Stalls raising funds for various groups in the village were well- supported.
Following the entertainment came the races, which were popular with the children, and the annual fell race also went ahead.
