There’ll be a wake-up call for Silsden residents as they wait for the town’s gala procession this Sunday.

They’ll see people in fancy dress pushing four hospital beds down the street a few minutes before the main parade arrives.

Teams organised by the Airedale Dodgers, Airedale Hospital’s running club, are pushing the beds in order to raise money for Manorlands.

The club has around 120 members from various parts of the hospital.

As well as attending social activities, members take part in the Great North Run each year in aid of Manorlands.

When members came up with the idea of a bed-push they decided that Silsden Gala was the ideal occasion.

After the push they will be in Bradley Field (a switch from the originally-planned Silsden Park) selling raffle tickets and cakes and biscuits to help their cause.

Chris Healey, a consultant at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and founder of the Dodgers, said one of the club’s aims was to have fun while raising funds for worthy causes.

The bed-pushers will set off from Howden Road, Silsden, at 1pm, with the main procession following two or three minutes behind.
