11:00am Sunday 29th July 2012 in Keighley
Bradley couple Colin and Valerie Paley have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
The couple met at a school reunion party in Colchester while Colin was doing his national service in the Royal Army Dental Corps.
Colin went to Cyprus two months later in 1951, but they kept up a correspondence until he was demobbed in 1952.
They were married on July 12, 1952, at St Mary’s Church in Stratford St Mary, the Suffolk village where Valerie was born.
She worked as a telephonist in Colchester before they came to live in Bradley in 1953.
Colin worked for a Skipton dentist for 22 years, then took up a post at Rolls Royce in Barnoldswick, where he worked for 25 years until retirement.
Valerie worked at different jobs in Bradley to fit in with the education of her two boys, Martyn and Gary. Her final job was working for a Silsden firm that designed greetings cards.
Martyn married Jacki and is now a professor of biomedical imaging at Sheffield University.
Gary, who shares his life with Gill, owns and runs London Musical Instruments, making brass instruments for professional bands. They live in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
Colin and Valerie have five grandchildren, Sarah, Susie, Janine, James and Jonathan; and two great grandchildren, Caylan and Emily Mae.
