Well-known Haworth trader Donald Cadman has died of a heart attack.

Mr Cadman, who lived in Main Street, died at home aged 84.

His partner, Mike Hutchinson, said: “Right to the end, when he was in a wheelchair, he was always very aware. He’d always want to know what was going on, and he’d watch the news 48 hours a day if he could.”

Mr Cadman has a daughter, Julie, and also leaves two grandsons. He and Mr Hutchinson cemented their relationship in a civil partnership last year.

Mr Cadman was born in Liverpool and worked at sea as a purser on mail ships for 20 years and then on-shore as a cargo manager. Later, he and Mr Hutchinson ran Ye Shoppe gift store, in Haworth Main Street, for about 25 years.

Mr Hutchinson said: “All the cards we’ve had say the same thing – that he was one of life’s gentlemen. He was a lovely man. He didn’t have a bad word for anybody or any said against him.”

A funeral service takes place today at 1pm at Oakworth Crematorium.
