Event to outline £50m broadband plan for North Yorkshire

Dozens of householders and businesses will this Saturday attend the second Broadband North Yorkshire Conference organised by South Craven MP Julian Smith.

At the event, at the Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal visitor centre, the county council and BT – which won the £50 million contract to deliver superfast broadband – will outline their plans and launch the name, logo and branding for the project.

Mr Smith leads a group of North Yorkshire and York MPs who have been pressing to improve internet connections across the county.

He said: “Eighteen months ago, at the first Broadband North Yorkshire Conference, we outlined our vision of a county better connected to give more opportunities for residents and businesses. This weekend we will be focusing on the progress that has been made and the exciting developments ahead over the coming months and years.

“This £50 million contract should mean every property in North Yorkshire can expect a good-quality broadband connection by 2015.”
