Haworth fundraiser Maurice Baren has baldly gone where he’s been before!

He has had his head shaved for the fifth time for charity.

And his latest hair-erasing experience, which also included his beard, has coined in about £6,500.

The money will be split between three causes – Action for Children, Yorkshire Cancer Research and SOS Sahel, which works on environmental and community issues in Sudan.

Saturday’s shave, at West Lane Baptist Church in Haworth, saw Maurice take on a different look in readiness – he had his hair and beard sprayed bright green!

“There were about 40 people there and nobody was expecting the green hair!” he said.

“While judging for Communities in Bloom in Canada I saw a display featuring a model of a man’s head with grass growing from his crown, and that gave me the idea. It just added something a bit different.”

Maurice, who turned 75 yesterday, said he was delighted with the amount raised and thanked everyone who had donated.

“Without the generous support of so many people I just couldn’t have done it,” he said.

The shaving was carried out by staff from Creative Hair Studio, Saltaire.

Maurice, who has undergone a charity head shave at five-yearly intervals, has now raised about £25,000 in total over the years.
