Keighley Boys Grammar School's students are reunited
10:00am Sunday 7th October 2012 in Keighley
Reunion organiser Doug Thompson with former teachers Paul Greenwood, George 'Spike' Rannard and Henry Bird.
There was an added attraction at the latest reunion for former students of Keighley Boys Grammar School.
The “old boys” were able to see photographs showing school life through the years provided by Jan Rothram-Perkins and David Kirkley, of Keighley and District History Society.
Almost 40 former students, their wives and partners attended the reunion at Keighley Rugby Union Club.
Doug Thompson, the organiser, said this was the 10th reunion since 1995.
He said: “Despite the passing of the years since the old school closed its doors (in 1964), this function continues to be well-supported. Two former yet evergreen masters of the school, George ‘Spike’ Rannard (history) and Paul Greenwood (music), were with us again this year, as was ‘old boy’ Henry Bird, who taught many of us on our way to the grammar school in the fifties, at Eastwood and Parkwood junior schools.”
Prof Thompson said apart from the annual reunion, there was a website, kbgs.com, maintained from Singapore by the son of late former student Colin Firth. To receive information about future reunions, contact Prof Thompson at a.d.thompson@hull.ac.uk or 3 George Street, Cottingham, East Yorkshire HU16 5QU.
