Keighley smokers offered free classes to quit

A Keighley medical centre is backing a Government campaign urging smokers to stub out the habit.

One Medicare@North Street is offering support and advice and holding free stop-smoking classes.

The Stoptober campaign, supported by Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation, began on Monday and runs throughout this month. It is the first of its kind targeting smokers across the country.

Rachael Pengelly, operations manager at One Medicare@North Street, said: “Cancer Research UK reported that smoking accounts for one in four cancer deaths and nearly a fifth of all cancer cases.

“We understand that smoking can be very difficult to beat, therefore providing the right support and guidance can make all the difference to someone considering quitting.

“We would recommend that all smokers wanting to give up should take part in the Stoptober campaign and as a service, we’re working to help as many people as possible win their battle to stop smoking for good.”

To book an appointment at the centre or join its stop-smoking group, phone (01535) 607444.

There is also a Stoptober app – available free on smartphones – and a Facebook page with additional advice.
