A 32-year-old man told a jury he thought his Christmas had come early when a woman got into his car and began flirting with him.

Fiazul Islam said they went for a cruise round in his Lexus at night and had consensual sex on the St Ives estate, Harden.

Islam, of Mannville Road, Knowle Park, Keighley, denies two charges of raping the woman.

Now a married man, he told the jury at Bradford Crown Court he felt ashamed of his actions on July 22, 2010, but he was entirely innocent of the allegations.

“I feel shameful and guilty, but I don’t feel guilty that I raped her. It was consensual sex,” he said.

The woman, in her 20s, says she was raped in a car after walking alone in Keighley following a work night out. She arrived home with no shoes or handbag and her phone was found by the police in Islam’s bedroom when he was arrested.

Islam said on the night of the rape allegations he stopped for a smoke alone in his car just off Oakworth Road.

He told the jury the woman, who he did not recognise, opened the door and got in next to him, saying: “Hi. How are you doing?” She asked him to drive her around and she became flirty. He thought it was his “early Christmas”.

Islam said the woman asked him to park up and to give her a hug. They then had sex in the car and he dropped her off where she asked him to.

The trial continues.
