Year nine Oakbank pupils have penned their own books and sent them to a school in Cameroon.
Eleven pupils gave up their free time in breaks and lunchtimes to work on their personal creations in the hope of establishing penpals at the Government Bi-lingual High School, in Ebolowa.
Oakbank deputy head teacher David Maxwell has just returned from a five-day visit to the school, where he handed over the books along with pencils, cases, pens and rulers.
Assistant head of year nine, Linda Tomlinson-Askham, said the Keighley children eagerly anticipated some response to their work. She said: “For a few weeks pupils came in to work on their own individual books. Many had illustrations in and information about their homes, personal lives, pastimes, what they like to watch on television – even down to what they sit on. Some of them went into a lot of detail.
