Designer Chloe is saying it with flowers

School pupils have helped to brighten up one of the busiest parts of Keighley.

Children from Nessfield Primary School were invited to submit their individual designs for a flower bed arrangement by Keighley in Bloom.

The school’s head forwarded the 10 best designs to the Keighley in Bloom committee, which then selected a winner.

Its members opted for the plan created by Chloe Lannen, eight, of Exley Head.

Last month workers from Bradford Council Street Scene made her vision a reality in the flower beds next to North Street’s junction with Spring Gardens Lane.

These incorporate marigolds, lobelias, begonias and several other varieties of flowers. The flowers in the centre of the main flower bed are arranged in the shape of a butterfly.

Mike Cunningham, of Keighley in Bloom, said the planting of the beds highlighted the town’s entry in this year’s Yorkshire in Bloom contest.

He added the group’s committee had donated £50 to Nessfield Primary School, with a further £50 individual donation from committee member John Baxandall.

The £100 total will go towards the school’s gardening club.

The runners-up in the competition for the best flower bed design were Megan Brook, Kayleigh Crichton, Rebecca Buchanan, Charlotte Paxford, Jacob Hunter and Eve Crossley.
