A tasty way to promote fair trade

Glusburn Community Primary School pupils and teachers held a number of activities for Fairtrade Week.

For the past year, the school has been working towards gaining UNICEF’s Rights Respecting School Award.

Through the activities of its off-curriculum Fairtrade Week, the school wanted its pupils to make the link between buying fairly traded products and the ability of communities in the developing world to provide basic necessities for their children. Those basic needs include the building of schools, health care provision, access to clean water and decent homes to live in.

Some of the activities from the week included baking with Fairtrade products such as chocolate, holding a Fairtrade coffee morning and visiting the local Co-op in Cross Hills to make a survey of Fairtrade products.

The store also donated products to support the school’s coffee morning.
