A Keighley school has won recognition for its approach to creative learning.
Our Lady of Victories RC Primary School was surveyed for an Ofsted report which shows creative learning practices are improving standards and pupils’ personal development.
The school, at Guard House, was among 44 visited. Of those, 18 — including Our Lady of Victories — are Creative Partnerships schools.
Creative Partnerships — a Government programme — has worked with nearly 5,000 schools across England, from Key Stage One to Four.
It fosters long-term partnerships between schools and creative professionals, including artists, performers, architects, multimedia developers and scientists.
Our Lady of Victories head teacher John Devlin, pictured, said: “We are delighted to be recognised in Ofsted’s new report and are pleased that it identifies what we see happening in our school every day — that creative approaches to learning raise attainment levels, improve attendance and increase pupil motivation.
“We will continue to further develop our teaching and learning practices to help to shape future education policy and practice.”
Paul Collard — chief executive of Creativity, Culture and Education (CCE), a new national organisation which manages Creative Partnerships — said: “The work of Our Lady of Victories Primary School and Creative Partnerships is recognised positively in the report.
“Independent research reinforces the benefits of creative learning approaches.”
