The family of a devoted father-of-four who died in an horrific two-vehicle crash has paid tribute to a man who “lived for his children”.

Jonny Salter, 46, of Harden, died at Airedale Hospital after an accident in which his Land Rover flipped on to its roof.

He was running an errand for his partner of five years when he was involved in the collision with a Renault Clio, in Keighley Road, near Colne.

The Renault driver, a 22-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Salter’s devastated partner, Sally Padgett, said: “Jonny was such a family man. “He just loved all of his children and was never happier than when they were all here. They were his world. He was so proud of them.”

Speaking through tears, his son Chris, 21, said: “He was like a best friend to me. You could always count on my dad because he was always there for anything I needed.

“He was such a cool dad.”

Mr Salter, a pensions advisor for HSBC, was also the father of daughters Charlotte, 21, Emily, 17, and one-year-old son, Joe.

He had been accepted as a member of Harden Parish Council a fortnight before his death.

Last Thursday, friends who had known him came to pay their respects at the family’s farmhouse home in Ryecroft.

David Burlison, 44, of Mytholmes, Haworth, had known Mr Salter for about 20 years.

He said: “He was a larger-than-life character. When he lived near us, he used to have a big bonfire every year.”

Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident, at Laneshawbridge, which happened at 6.40pm on Tuesday of last week. Anyone with information should contact Lancashire Police on 0845 1253545.
