Pupils at Harden Primary School are taking part in a national week designed to show that bullies are not welcome.

Since Monday, members of the school council — helped by year six pupils — have been staging anti-bullying assemblies each day. The assemblies feature short plays written by other children focusing on the theme of bullies and their victims.

Children have also been making and selling buns decorated with blue icing.

Tomorrow is Blue Friday, which marks the end of this year’s anti-bullying week.

The week is co-ordinated by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, a network of 50 UK organisations working to create safer environments in which children can play and learn.

As part of Blue Friday, pupils in Harden will make a pledge not to tolerate bullying at their school.

They have also been participating in a poster making competition and serving as counsellors to children requiring help and advice.

Year six teacher Gillian Wilson said all pupils had responded very well to the campaign.

She said the members of the school council had taken the initiative in organising activities and she paid special tribute to the efforts of year six pupils Lucy Ward and Ben Metcalf.
