A climbing wall and T-shirt printing will be among the attractions at an open day at Denholme Youth Café on Saturday.

Adults are invited to visit the café, in Foster Park, between 12.30-2pm, to see the work young people have been doing to support the local community.

And activities for young people will be held from 2-6pm.

The event is being organised by Making a Difference in Denholme (MAD-D), the young people’s management group for the café, with backing from Bradford Council’s Integrated Youth Support. Debra Peters, for the council, said: “The young people from the MAD-D group wish to celebrate the work that has gone into getting the Denholme Youth Café up and running.

“This open day will give villagers the chance to come along and find out what young people have been doing in the community, such as the highly successful clean up of Foster Park.

“The café opened in May 2008 and we’ve been working hard to provide a wide range of exciting opportunities for young people — we hope more young people will come along to find out what’s on offer.”

Councillor Michael Kelly, the council’s executive member for services to children and young people, said: “The open day is a wonderful opportunity for young people to show residents how committed they are to helping improve the lives of everyone in their community. I hope lots of people of all ages will go along to this event to support the work of the café and that more young people make the most of what the facility provides.”

The youth café gives youngsters a place to meet and learn about services available to them.

It is open on Mondays (2-4pm) for support sessions to help young people find training, employment or education; Mondays and Thursdays, 7-9pm, for youth groups and on Tuesdays (7-9pm) for the MAD-D group.
