Public asked to dream up ways of spending £100,000
Councillors in Silsden and Steeton are currently drawing up a list of potential projects on which to spend a £100,000 windfall from the sale of Leeds-Bradford Airport.
Ward councillors Adrian Naylor and Andrew Mallinson had asked for the public to come forward with suggestions on how to spend the money, which they plan to split three ways between Silsden, Addingham, and Steeton and Eastburn.
With a potential of £33,000 of investment into the area, Steeton with Eastburn Parish Council decided to put forward a number of suggestions.
One idea was to use the money to make Eastburn playing fields suitable for the use of trial bikers, should the council agree to go ahead with the project.
Other suggestions included making improvements to the toilet for the disabled at the bowling green, draining Eastburn playing fields, and improving the bridge over Steeton beck.
Silsden Town Council is still accepting ideas from the public but has so far agreed to forward an application from Silsden Cricket and Football Club for funding to rebuild its changing rooms.
The council also agreed to put forward a suggestion by Cllr Chris Atkinson to build a roundabout at Bell Square and a pelican crossing outside Brierdene.
Cllr Naylor said there was still plenty of time for people to submit suggestions.
He said: "It is early days yet. We are still waiting for the meeting of Bradford Council when we will know more but at this point in time we are still trying to publicise it and collect suggestions.
"I have had suggestions from Silsden and Steeton councils but I have also had some members of the public contact me independently with some ideas.
"I want as many ideas as possible so from that point of view there is still a lot of time to get ideas in to me.
"I don't want anybody to dismiss any idea because they think it may not be glamorous enough, I am not ruling anything out."
