The co-founder of a female choir has raised £1,000 for Cancer Research UK after her stepson died from the disease.

Elaine Isherwood, who established the Cobbydale Singers 14 years ago with a childhood friend, held a charity concert to raise money.

Her stepson Frank Wilson Isherwood died, aged 44, after a 20-year battle with the disease.

Mrs Isherwood, who lives in Silsden, said: "He was a very hard working man and he didn't let his illness get in the way of his work. He would have been overwhelmed by the concert."

Frank Wilson Isherwood's wife and daughter attended the concert, in which Eastburn Junior and Infant School choir also performed.

Two girls from Hothfield Junior School in Silsden played wind instruments at the event, held at St Andrew's Church in Kildwick.

Mrs Isherwood said of the performance - which coincided with her 60th birthday: "It was super.

"All my family and grandchildren came. We held a raffle, and the most important thing is that we raised so much money."

Sally Watson, the area volunteer co-ordinator for Cancer Research UK, said it was nice to see people doing something they enjoyed for a cause important to them. Contact the charity on www.cancerresearchuk.org/supportus/.
