Haven is given a £400 injection

A community centre has been given a £400 boost to install much-needed furnishings and a pool table.

The centre in Litton Road, off Fell Lane, Keighley, is the site of a community haven, created to deter mischief-makers and drug-users from the area.

Yorkshire Building Society's Charitable Foundation has donated the money to Future Fusion, the community group leading the venture.

Future Fusion has already introduced homework clubs for schoolchildren and a drop-in centre where members of the community can meet and support each other.

The group, which has also organised parties in the community centre and trips to the coast and Chester Zoo, said it was in great need of the donation.

Shelley Green, co-ordinator, said: "We have been delighted with the support Future Fusion has received from the local police, council and Manningham and Brunel housing associations, but we are still dependent on donations to carry out much of the activities we want to do.

"We are therefore very grateful to the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation for its support in helping us set up our new community centre."

Anne-Marie Mullins, manager at the Yorkshire Building Society's Keighley branch, said: "Future Fusion is aiming to bring together a number of local people with diverse backgrounds, to help build a better Keighley community.

"I'm therefore delighted that our charitable foundation has been able to support it with this valuable work."
