With this tractor, I thee wed ...
Newlyweds David and Natalie Throup with one of the vintage tractors which featured on their big day
Newlyweds David and Natalie Throup with one of the vintage tractors which featured on their big day

When Natalie McQuade accompanied her friend on a date to give her moral support, little did she know she would end up marrying the man herself in a wedding littered with vintage tractors.

It was two-and-a-half years ago that Natalie went with her pal to the Robin Hood pub, in Silsden.

But her friend departed hours later, leaving Natalie - a staff nurse at Bradford Royal Infirmary - locked in conversation with her future husband, David Throup, 27, a farmer and tractor fanatic from the town.

Natalie, 26, said: "I went to offer moral support but I ended up going on the date instead."

Mr Throup had recognised Natalie from Ilkley Grammar School, where the pair had studied together, although she did not remember him.

Mr Throup said: "Natalie was a year below at school so I knew her from then but we didn't properly get to know each other until we met by chance years later."

Mr Throup is involved in organising the Brontë Tractor Run around Cullingworth, Denholme and Haworth, which raises money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and it wasn't long before Natalie began to help out too.

Mr Throup said: "I have been involved in the Brontë Tractor Run for over ten years now and since Natalie got with me, she is involved in it too and helps to sell raffle tickets.

"Living on a farm, I have grown up and messed around with vintage tractors for years and, because we are both involved in the tractor run, we thought it would be fitting to have them outside on the wedding day."

The pair married at St James's Church, in Silsden, on Saturday, and were led away by a procession of vintage tractors and cars accompanied by 14-month-old son Jack, who was a pageboy.

Among the vintage vehicles were two David Brown tractors, from 1950 and 1960, and a 1947 Field Marshall tractor, which took the wedding party to Steeton Hall for the reception.

The pair, who live in Silsden, are honeymooning at Center Parcs, in the Lake District, before a trip abroad in the summer.
