Drunken woman driver in pink pyjamas bit man and punched another in a rage

A woman in pink pyjamas, T-shirt and boots bit a man and punched another in a drunken rage.

Carol Bradman bit Darren Grange when he tried to stop the 36-year-old striking another man. She also lashed out with her fists and shouted obscenities in Rosslyn Grove, Haworth, after drinking two bottles of wine.

Bradman, of Duckling Pond Close, Haworth, lost her temper after smashing her car, a silver coloured Suzuki Ventura, into two parked cars when she returned home on the evening of November 17 last year.

Officers who arrested her found her lying in the arms of her young son on a settee at her home. She begged police not to lock her up and her son told officers: "Don't take my mummy away".

She was taken to Keighley police station and found to have more than twice the legal level of alcohol in her blood.

Bradman, a mother of two, appeared in Bingley Court on Tuesday denying two counts of damaging property and was found not guilty.

She had earlier admitted common assault and drink driving.

The court fined her a total of £650, banned her from driving for 28 months and ordered her to pay £40 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Sam Coates, 21, said he ran to the scene of the crash and saw a blonde woman in pink pyjamas. "I wanted to see if she was OK but she jumped out shouting and swearing at me. She was cursing and swearing and kicking vehicles. I tried to calm her down and she swung her arms at me and planted me one on the left temple."

He said Bradman's car was at 45 degrees in the road facing outwards and it had been in collision with a BMW and a Skoda. It was minus a wheel.

In his statement PC Greg Palmer said they found Bradman lying with her son and very upset and crying hysterically. Her son had pleaded with them not to arrest her.

Bradman told magistrates she had taken her car to report a child who had been making a nuisance at her home, to her mother. She had second thoughts and on returning home her car skidded and she crashed into the cars.

Nigel Jamieson, her solicitor, said she accepted she was in drink and there had been assaults but she was adamant she was not driving recklessly.

"This was an accident which is often a feature of drink driving and is usually dealt with as an aggravating feature and it is no different in this case," he said.
