Open day to provide food for the needy

Keighley Salvation Army is staging an open day.

The event - at the High Street centre this Saturday - will feature a variety of stalls selling goods including new items, books, clothes, wrapping paper, cards and Traidcraft products.

Tea and coffee will be available to buy, from 11.30am-3pm.

Keighley Community Band will play between 12.30pm and 2.30pm and DVDs about the work of the Salvation Army will be showing.

All funds raised at the event will support the church's community projects, including the provision of food parcels to needy families.

Chris Bown, for Keighley Salvation Army, said: "We are constantly asked to provide food to many people throughout the week, especially young people under the age of 25.

"Without events such as this and the many donations of food we receive, we would not be able to provide this service. Please support us by attending on May 10. Any donations of tins or packets will also be accepted during the sale."

The church's monthly "Songs of Praise" will be held on Sunday, at 2.30pm.

The service, to celebrate Pentecost, is open to anyone and would particularly suit people who do not regularly attend church. Keighley Community Band will play during the afternoon and refreshments will be served afterwards.

Further details can be obtained from Captains Kenny or Alison Gardner on 01535 603494.
