Economy of town helped

Plans to extend an industrial building at Riverside, Keighley, have been approved by Keighley Area Planning Panel.

The applicant was seeking to add storage and working space to the property, which is used for light engineering work. The plans provoked a letter of objection from one resident and a petition signed by 12 people.

They said any extension would harm their views, lead to possible loss of trees and increase traffic.

They added that when the existing building was approved in the early 1980s, developers gave assurances that the property would not be expanded further.

But Keighley's Area Planning Panel, meeting last Thursday, was asked by planning officers to grant permission.

They argued the extension would have "no significant impact" on neighbouring houses. They said allowing the source of employment to improve its surroundings would help regenerate the town's economy.

Councillor Doreen Lee said she was concerned about the effect of more lorries potentially parking on Riverside.

However, the applicant pointed out all lorries arriving at his building did not linger in the road but drove straight into the yard.

Voting in favour of the proposals, panel members asked him to submit additional details on a flood barrier to protect the building from the nearby River Worth.

Typical Labour talk, these people love to see the demise of businesses in this town.
