Haworth is one of just two locations across Bradford district where motorists are charged to use council-run car parks on Sundays, it has been revealed.

It and fellow tourist hot-spot Ilkley miss out on the free parking enjoyed at other major centres, including Keighley, Bingley and Shipley, as well as Bradford city centre itself.

Ilkley Parish Council has voiced anger at the situation and is planning to meet Bradford Council parking chiefs to discuss the issue.

Haworth Parish Council chairman Councillor John Huxley said he was unaware of the anomaly.

“We will ask our colleagues at Ilkley for the facts about this and discuss it with our ward councillors,” he added.

Village stalwart Mike Hutchinson, who owns a bed and breakfast business in the village, said he was surprised to hear about the charges.

“If free parking could be introduced on Sundays that would be a positive thing for Haworth,” he added.

Bradford Council confirmed Sunday charges applied at only its Haworth and Ilkley car parks.

Parking services manager Paul Ratcliffe said he was meeting Ilkley parish councillors, but declined to comment ahead of that.

He added there were no on-street parking charges in Haworth.
