STEETON-based Acorn Stairlifts has won the Export Award in the Insider Growth 100 Awards, which celebrated the achievements of the 100 fastest-growing companies in Yorkshire.

This is the second time in two years that Acorn has won the Insider Growth 100 Export Award, having also received it in 2012.

Company secretary Dave Belmont collected the award on behalf of the company.

He said: “As one of the fastest growing companies in Yorkshire, we are delighted that our strong export record during the past few years has been recognised in this way.

“In the last four years, exports from Acorn’s UK factories have more than doubled from £31 million to £71 million, and 56 per cent of our revenues now come from outside the UK.

“With offices in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and mainland Europe, Acorn is perfectly placed to continue its export growth in the coming years.”

To make it on to the Growth 100 list, companies must show a continuous rise in turnover for five years, starting from a base of £1 million.

Acorn was formed in 1992 and now has more than 1,200 employees worldwide. Its core businesses is the manufacture and sale of stair lifts.

The company has a head office, factory and distribution centre in Steeton, and a factory in Scotland, along with a nationwide network of surveyors and installers.
