A PROFESSIONAL horse trainer from Denholme staged a horsemanship demonstration in Haworth to raise cash for the fight against breast cancer.

Joe Midgley, 19, who was one of the winners of a televised horsemanship contest last year, mounted the demonstration at Springhead Stables, Mytholmes Lane, last Sunday. (Oct 19) Proceeds are going to the charity Beast Cancer Care.

Mr Midgley said: "We had a great turnout and raised just over £500. As well as the demo we also had a charity raffle.

"We were overwhelmed and so very thankful for all the support we received from my clients and local businesses.

"There were hot dogs, cupcakes and hand painted horse shoes on sale. Overall it was a great day, and the dress code for the event was pink-coloured clothes. About half of the spectators came dressed in pink.

"The main part of the demo was a presentation about horses that don't want to be loaded onto a horsebox, and how people can solve that problem with their own horse."

Mr Midgley, who is a former Parkside School pupil, travels all over the UK training horses.

Late last year he competed in master horseman Chris Cox’s The Horsemanship Showdown, in Texas. He was one of just three competitors to win the coveted prize of a four-year apprenticeship on Cox’s Diamond Double C Ranch.
