YEAR five pupils at a Worth Valley school were introduced to the delights of baking by an award winning Keighley baker.

Mike Armstrong, master baker at the town's Sainsbury's Supermarket, staged a demonstration for youngsters at Haworth Primary School.

School food leader, Tracy Roe, said: "Mike showed the children how to make bread rolls. One of these was crocodile-shaped, and that was the favourite of the afternoon!

"In addition, the pupils made Parkin Pigs, using the cutter that our year two children bought for Mike last year.

"The afternoon also included pizza-making, including instruction in how to make a stuffed crust pizza.

"In true British bake off style a real winner with the children was the Nutella Star Bread, which was amazing and delicious.

"The children enjoyed eating all the freshly baked produce, and are looking forward to recreating some of the recipes in their cooking lessons."

Haworth Primary head teacher, Helen Thompson, said: "Baker Mike really encouraged the children, sharing his expertise in creating a range of dishes.

"As a Gold Food for Life school, we place a great emphasis on cross curricular food education and developing children's skills and expertise in cooking."
