KEIGHLEY bus company Transdev is again operating Boxing Day services.

The firm says buses will run on five routes around Keighley and the Worth Valley.

Services being provided are the 66A Keighley-Steeton-Airedale Hospital, 703 Keighley-Guard House-Braithwaite, 717 Keighley-Exley Head-Oakworth, 719 Keighley-Ingrow-Bracken Bank and the 760 Keighley-Bingley-Shipley-Greengates-Leeds.

Richard Jackson, Transdev development director, said: "The special Boxing Day services are very popular.

"We are delighted to be able to continue supporting the local community by providing a service on these routes."

The decision is welcomed by Keighley town mayor, Councillor Graham Mitchell.

"For something like 22 years we had no public service buses running in Keighley on Boxing Day but then Keighley Town Council and the Airedale Shopping Centre lobbied hard to persuade Metro to fund an experimental service," he said.

"Our efforts were rewarded because the five services were sufficiently well used for Metro to be confident in repeating the exercise.

"The shops are always open in the town centre on Boxing Day and having the bus services operating supports the local economy."

Transdev will run a Saturday service on Christmas Eve, with early finishes.

There will be no service on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.
