Thieves are targeting Land Rovers to steal valuable parts, a parish council has been told Sergeant Chris Watson, of the Worth Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team, explained to Oxenhope Parish Council that Land Rovers had been targeted recently, with thieves removing valuable vehicle parts instead of stealing the whole Land Rover.

He said police officers would be visible in and around the parish this month carrying out road casualty reduction measures.

They will check that motorists are wearing their seatbelts and detect drivers breaking the speed limit.

Noreen Akhtar, of the Keighley Area Co-ordinator’s office, said some funding was being provided to buy traffic speed monitoring devices, which can be fitted to street furniture such as lampposts.

Sgt Watson explained: “These can be left in place for a couple of weeks.

“They’ll provide a better picture of speeding in particular areas than can be achieved by a Police Community Support Officer, who may only be out doing speedwatch for half an hour.”
